Bagaboo vs. Chrome, Part 2.

May 27th, 2009 by admin

If you don’t recall Part 1, check it out here.

Well, just a fast update:
- The Chrome Citizen still rocks in terms of style and handling. My everyday bag, sometimes a bit to small. Still miss a laptop sleeve and a padded, more rigid back.

- The Bagaboo Workhorse L: Wow, just visited a friend some days ago. Had a sleeping bag, a inflatable mattress (deflated), clothes and everything else you need on a trip with me. Inside the bag! It’s huge. The strap system rocks, and can be adjusted on the fly perfectly. Did not yet kill any of the plastic clips. Currently mostly used for grocery shopping; I get a weeks worth of food in the bag.

In conclusion, both bags hold up to the expectations so far. Still use the Chrome a bit more as it’s smaller, but like the Bagaboo a tat more.

Recent updates: Bagaboo redesigned their website and introduced a new “Eco” line of bags.
Chrome now has a “Back Alley” with some bags on sale.

Turn on, Zune out

May 27th, 2009 by admin

News from our very favorite leap year bug: New Zune HD will be available in stores “in fall 2009″ – and it’s coming to Europe. In this saturated market, where one either has an iPod or a cheapo MP3 player, the new Zune is likely to fail unless it has some killer feature. I found none on the press release so far, so the Zune appears to rely on his trademark bug.

Get the full specs on the official website: http://www.zune.net/en-us/mp3players/zunehd/default.htm

As of now it is yet unknown whether the new Zune will still feature our favorite leap year bug.

Edit: Just got the word that the Zune won’t be available in Europe; whereas the new store that comes with it will be. And I was sooooooooo looking forward to buy one.

I ♥ my Mac

February 13th, 2009 by admin

Because Leuk set me up, here’s my statement for the MacNotes raffle:

I’ve had my first encounter with a Mac around 2000, and had to support them. OS X was just taking his first steps, and, honestly: it rocked and sucked at the same time. Most of the Macs we supported were still running OS 9, though, which sucked even more. We discontinued that support, and I stopped playing with Macs for quite a while, before I bought my first Mac, a ‘Late 2004 14,1″ iBook G4′ – actually the same model that Leuk bought. OS X was stable and cool by now, and the hardware…I can’t really recall how many raving reviews I wrote. I quickly became a Mac addict and religiously followed any Keynote…

I updated to a MacBook in January 2007, and passed the iBook on to a friend, who bought it for his mom. Even she, at 50+, has had no problem in learning her way around the system. The iBook isnt’ the fastest notebook, but still does it’s daily work without even starting the fan.
My MacBook is a bit louder, much faster, but the hardware just evolved, no drastic changes, and is still the best product on the market. Except for the unibody MacBooks, of course. It’s fast, reliable, and the OS is a dream.

And that’s the short version of why I ♥ my Mac.

oooops

February 2nd, 2009 by admin

Updates.
I forgot something. Oooooops, my bad.

I’m still happy.
I’m still laughing about the Zune.
Death & Taxes….this time of the year again? Already? Damn.
I’m planning my 2008 vacation – in 2009. Lots of free time ahead, so don’t call or email me about anything work related.
I want a Mazda MX-5 (that’s the european name for the Miata) NB-FL. As soon as the tax returns show up in my account…
Got way too much medical attention in the last time, it appears that even my body thinks I’m getting old (Yeah, closing in on the next 0. Why else would I need a convertible?).

Guess that sums it pretty much up.

Zune….stillborn, crippled, brown and now….z2k!

January 5th, 2009 by admin

Buy an iPod. Or some cheap crappy MP3-player from your friendly chinese Ebay merchant.
And for those who actually already made the mistake to buy a Zune: Microsoft promised an update before the next leap year…

(And by the way: The Zune page currently has a slogan online: “NEW YEAR, NEW YOU.” “New Year, New You, New Zune” or “New Year, New You, Dead Zune” would have been funnier…)

The new incredible ultratruegoth Swiss Army Knife (“from hell”)!

December 20th, 2008 by admin

I’ve always had a Swiss Army Knife. For more than half of my life I’ve been taking one with me wherever I go. I’ve misused and abused it as a screwdriver, to open coconuts, bottles, cutting things open, prying things open, cutting paper, and whatever. My most-used tool, good for everything. It’s a red handled knife, the traditional swiss cross has faded long ago, it has many scratches and it died. More or less. Actually, only the tip of the main blade broke off when I lent it to a workmate – after the move into our new office, we had to cut open some cable ducts.

That knife served me well for over 15 years, and I decided it might finally be the time to get a new one…

So I bought the same model again. Only the black version this time. Very simple and minimalistic, it only has two blades, a can opener, a bottle opener, an awl and a corkscrew. And it’s black. Some new gadgets that have been added during the time since I last bought one: a toothpick (???) and a pincer. Also, it’s black. With a silver cross on it. How extraordinary goth!

(Did I mention I like black?)
